What You Need to Send

For the conversion, I only require:

Please do not send a lens, neck strap, memory card, charger, camera bag, instruction manuals, paperwork, or other accessories unless we have agreed otherwise in advance.

Sending only the required equipment reduces the size and weight of the package and helps prevent unnecessary accessories from being misplaced or damaged during transport.

Infrared 720nm Camera Conversion

The first stage of a standard 720nm infrared conversion consists of carefully disassembling the camera and replacing its original internal anti-aliasing and infrared-blocking filter assembly with a high-quality 720nm infrared filter of the R72 type.

The spectral response of this filter is comparable to that of the well-known Hoya R72 filter. It reaches approximately 50% transmission at 700nm and approximately 90% transmission from 720nm to beyond 1300nm. As a result, the filter transmits infrared radiation while also allowing a small amount of deep red light, close to the infrared spectrum, to reach the sensor.

A 720nm filter is widely regarded as a classic and versatile choice for digital infrared photography. Although it appears almost opaque to the human eye, it can retain enough color information to create attractive false-color photographs. Under favorable conditions—particularly on a bright, sunny day—and with careful RAW-file processing, it is possible to produce warm false colors, luminous foliage, dark skies, and striking tonal contrasts.

The same conversion can also produce dramatic, high-contrast monochrome photographs with an appearance similar to images made using deeper infrared black-and-white filters. This combination of false-color and monochrome possibilities makes a 720nm conversion an excellent option for photographers beginning their infrared journey as well as experienced photographers looking for a flexible creative tool.

Full-spectrum conversion is especially suitable for photographers and imaging specialists who want maximum flexibility and prefer to select the required wavelength externally for each project.

Precise Autofocus Calibration

Replacing the camera’s original internal filter changes the optical path and creates a new focus plane. For this reason, installing the new filter is only part of a professional infrared camera conversion.

The second essential stage is the precise adjustment of the camera’s autofocus system. Without proper calibration, the camera may appear to focus correctly through the viewfinder while producing photographs in which the actual point of sharpness falls in front of or behind the intended subject.

I calibrate the autofocus system using dedicated camera-service tools and high-quality standard reference lenses, including prime lenses such as the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G.

Once the camera has been correctly adjusted, it should provide accurate focus with other compatible lenses as well. Please remember that individual lenses can have their own optical characteristics, and some lenses perform better in infrared than others.

Individual Inspection and Real-World Testing
